anyone. The developer is easy to contact and very quick to respond

Weaknesses: None that I can think of
Details: I am just setting up a new business:

members area. I also plan to charge for access so this software with
it's PayPal intergration was exactly what I needed. The online
documentation is very simple to follow - even for a non coder like

Best App for Managing Users - Hands

Strengths: Completely
customizable, EXCELLENT support, great documentation
Weaknesses: None.
Details: I usually don't do reviews but must say this has
been one of my best experiences in web development over the past few
years. Have over 5,000 users loaded (using SQL Server 2000 for the
backend) and this system runs smooth as silk. Looked at a ton of
other programs before trying out Chris's software. So glad I found
it. The fact that it now supports asp.NET sealed the deal for me.
I'm not the world's greatest ASP programmer and I'm completely new
to .NET, but I had his system up and running in less than an hour on
both. Tested the demo out, played with it for like 10 minutes and
immediately dropped the $$ for the full version - no-brainer. The
code is extremely well-documented so customizations aren't difficult
for even the novice programmer. Nothing out there that I've tested
even comes close to offering the features and flexibility that this
program does. Also worked with Chris on a few custom features we
needed and he was extremely helpful in not only adding what I
needed, but also suggesting ideas to go about it that I hadn't
thought of. Not to mention very timely and responsive. Worth every
Penny spent, no doubt. Thanks Chris - keep up the good work.

Strengths: Great range of
features, fully comprehensive & well documented
Weaknesses: Could be slightly easier to skin & would like a
developer log in over and above the admin level.
Details: Looked at a lot of password protection schemes,
from free to £LOTS. Convinced myself by trialling the Lite version &
clinched sale with client by demoing with the Lite version. Full
version (7) really great & easy to use. No hesitation recommending
it to any site developer.

documentation I've seen, & priced right. Had it installed and files
protected in no time. The developer is quick to respond to
questions; the forum is an excellent source of information. Pages
are easy to customize (both design and function). Examples for
various different scenarios are included. It's designed to be very
secure and allows you to protect vbscript asp pages, images, PDFs,
etc. MANY advanced features. Version 5 was terrific. Version 7 is
way better!

Details: I purchased ASP Protect AFTER speaking with the
support, they even helped me BEFORE i had spent any money!! Thought
i had some problems getting it to do the PayPal IPN part, support
was great, and it turns out it was working fine anyway... my bad !!
Great for tracking members and very easy to administer users /
levels access, or even group access. This app has everything i
needed and more. I recommend 100% if even only for the PayPal IPN
scripts. They are spot on !!

Strengths: Features and
personalized customer support
Weaknesses: Not totally turnkey: you *do* need to configure
stuff
Details: I've been using ASPProtect since a VERY early
version, back in 2001, and it's simply hands-down the best. This
latest version is worth every penny of the upgrade cost, and then
some. By including PayPal and 2Connect integration, I don't have the
hassle of sitting on top of my account creation. It's already paid
for itself with ease of use and allowing more payment options than I
originally had. Once configured, it's a dream to operate. I love it
and have never had a frustration session with the product. It does
what it's supposed to do. The configuration process can be tricky in
places, but that's what documentation is for, and C. Williams has
got some excellent docs online at his site. Hit a major snag? Don't
worry. Post at his site and he will respond personally. In one of my
cases, he found and improvement in his code and made that available
within a few hours of my post. WOW. I am so happy with the product,
I have yet to wonder how it could be made better. Even so, Mr.
Williams continues to improve ASPProtect, to make sure it retains
its lead as the BEST user management solution on the market. I LOVE
THIS PRODUCT. REPEAT. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT

Strengths: Features
Weaknesses: A little intimidating for a new user
Details: Having made the comment regarding the weaknesses,
let me say that the service provided by Chris will get you through
any issues you have with installation and getting the product to
work. I have never had such quick responses to questions from any
vendor. And these were patient and helpful responses. In my opinion
the product is worth more, and the effort Chris put into handling my
questions and some custom programing went beyond my expectations.

Strengths: Very easy to
incorporate, ran as-is out of the box, easy to customize
Weaknesses: Tutorial information took some time to fully
understand
Details: Customer service is how to build a business, and
Chris does it first class. Even when he does not understand your
particular application problem, he will still keep working to
provide a solution. The application ran great out of the box, but I
admit I am an experienced ASP user that understands ODBC, DSN-Less,
#INCLUDE, and other phrases that trouble the newbie. However, a
newbie should be expected to learn this material if they are working
in a security application... and now the most important part for any
application - - - This software runs without modification in a
screen-reader environment. My company produces the undisputed
most-popular screen reader software for blind people. Any
third-party application MUST be Accessible to blind persons. With
1/3 of our employees being blind, this is not just a recommendation,
but a fact if I wish to continue being the Web Administrator. I
easily customized the Login form to include some hints, and did not
have a single complaint about the page being readable with our
software. - - - If you need a solid access-control password system,
that is also Bobby, W3C, and Section 508 compliant, use ASP Protect
rather than writing it yourself. That is my story and I am sticking
to it! Mike Hembrey.

ASPProtect is solid as a rock running SQL2000 Written by John Reed from Melbourne, Australia (Tuesday, February 24, 2004) Writer is with: http://www.forestry.org.au/test.asp | Strengths: Easy of use, code comments, feature set, option pack Weaknesses: Does not have a remember me feature Details: I have been using ASPProtect v 6 with the option pack on MS Server2003 and MS SQL2000 and have had no major issues at all. THe code is well rwiten and commented so any modification are easy. Once logged in a full set of user variable are available so it is easy to customise any page. Importing and exporting of users is really easy. Lost password feature is great as is having a log of members visits. Absolutely the Best ASP Product Written by Roger Fisher from San Diego, CA (Wednesday, August 20, 2003) Writer is with: http://www.sdmse.com | Strengths: Ease of installation, Well Documented and Commented Code Weaknesses: None I Have Seen Yet Details: I've been using ASPProtect for a few years now and it hasn't hiccuped yet. Compared to many of the "other" ASP based password protection products out there, this one is hands down the best. Review Based On: using demo only |
Great Software Even for a Novice! Written by Wes Black from Fort Worth, Texas (Saturday, August 09, 2003) Writer is with: http://www.sltn.com | Strengths: It works! ASPprotect was simple and straightforward to set up. Good price, too. Weaknesses: None that I have found. Details: ASPprotect is exactly what I needed and it worked like a charm. I am a real novice at web development so ASP was a tough learning curve. Just when I was about to give up my hosting service recommended ASPprotect. I was relieved to find that it met all my needs, was simple to set up and incorporate into my web site, and it worked as described. The followup has been all that I could ask for. Outstanding Product! Best I've Found! Written by David LeBlanc from Newport, Rhode Island (Thursday, March 06, 2003) Writer is with: http://www.mustang123.com | Strengths: Very robust, easy to use, easy to setup, great customer support, and I could go on and on! Weaknesses: None! Details: I spent weeks looking for a robust ASP application that would work on Windows 2000 Servers, had a membership functionality, and was integrated with PayPal to allow paid members subcriptions to my site. When I found ASPProtect I was delighted that it had all the features I was looking for and some extra! Within about 30 minutes I had the software installed and a test transaction processed through PayPal. The script was completely automated so that the user got his password, and access immediately and the script set the expiration date on the account. Basically, the way the script is written I do not have to get involved as the administrator because it is completely automated which reduces my workload tremendously. It does however have the option to allow Administrators to personnally accept/reject new members. For what it's worth, I had purchased another ASP application to secure pages but was dissatisfied with its capabilities. Just to integrate it with PayPal was going to cost me another $180 in customization. With ASPProtect, I got a much, much better application with the PayPal module for less that just the customization costs! Another feature that is very valuable is the script generator to secure pages. Basically, it will generate the one line of code to place in your pages to secure them and that's it. Other application have 5-7 lines and you have to edit them manually. Last word. I have been completely satisfied with the customer support. It is very rare that a company actually contacts me AFTER the sell just to make sure everything is working correctly, but that is exactly what ASPProtect had done (twice!). You can't beat that for customer support. You won't go wrong with this product. Review Based On: 2 Month(s) of usage |
Great Product Written by Glen Graves from Houston (Thursday, December 19, 2002) Writer is with: http://www.glnx.com | Strengths: Flexible, Reliable, Easy to Use and Set Up, Great Support Weaknesses: can't find any... Details: We've used the ASP product on our corporate website for over three years, and just recently upgraded to the new ASP.Net package. We love the product because it is very easy to use and configure, yet has all of the options we need (and a few more). It is also very flexible. In the new .Net version we especially like the new "groups" feature and additional custom fields. Set-up support is great. I have always received a quick and helpful response. ALL that and a bag o' chips Written by michael k from California (Friday, November 08, 2002) Writer is with: http://cloudburstdesign.com | Strengths: Affordable, Comprehensive, Easy. Get it. Weaknesses: Haven't really found any...yet. Details: First I got the Demo, and with a single change to the database path literally had it up in minutes. Not to date this review, but I bought the full version the same day for 99 bucks... then bought the upgrade pack for another 50... Given the power, flexibility, and ease of use I will most likely never need to buy/create another login routine for this particular site. I haven't tried the SQL port, but it intrests me, and I will most likely try it in the future. The moral of the story is: kick the programmer 100 bucks cause you WILL NOT find a more robust login routine for this price. And if you're an ASP programmer yourself drop the author a line, and ask HIM how long he worked on it. Thanks for an awesome product -mk Review Based On: 1 Hour(s) of usage |
5 stars just isn't enough! Written by Scott Merrill from Cordova, TN (Tuesday, September 03, 2002) Writer is with: http://www.deanalee.com/ | Strengths: Fairly easy setup for novice users; AMAZINGLY quick & VERY helpful support from author Weaknesses: No "newsletter" configuration built-in; not necessary, but would be really helpful :) Details: This script absolutely 30ROCKS! The INCREDIBLE support from Chris Williams (the author) makes this script easily rise above the rest! I sent him an e-mail, expecting hours or even days before a response...try MINUTES!!! Three or four more e-mails, all answered in just a few more minutes! He pointed me in JUST the right direction, every time, and nailed each & every problem right on the head. The only thing that could make this script better would be a mailing list option built-in. However, in Chris' defense, there are 6 custom fields that can be used already built-in; they just require some medium-level knowledge of ASP in order to make them work. I have no doubt, however, that Chris will come through once again with FLYING colors! I will highly recommend this script to anyone who needs an inexpensive, easy-to-setup, easy-to-maneuver user-management system for their website! A+, Chris! Review Based On: 10 Day(s) of usage |

Great for a novice! Written by John Gordon from Pomeroy, Washington (Monday, August 26, 2002) Writer is with: http://www.castlemoyle.com
 | Strengths: no comment Weaknesses: no comment Details: My asp experience was zilch. I purchased asp protect last week and had it running on my local server within a day. It took a bit of research to make all the parts work together, but I NEVER could have done it alone. I spent more time researching possible passwording solutions than I did setting asp protect up on my system. Getting it going on our actual internet site was simply e-mailing the system operator and having a directory's permissions changed. And now that it's live, it's four clicks from getting the e-mail that someone has registered to sending them out their password and access. A one-word review of asp protect is SWEET! Thanks to the author. Review Based On: 5 Day(s) of usage |

This is excellent code and easy to use. It allows us to handle the different levels of security we use to determine passwords for admin, Web Hosts, Host Finders and our independent Reviewers without skipping a beat. Chris, I just wanted to tell how cool your password program is. I can't believe you are selling it this cheap. I have paid a lot more for a lot less. The code is easy to modify and it works perfect. I wish I had someone with your skills working with me. If you ever need a job and you want to move to Pittsburgh, PA drop me a line and my company will grab you up. My most sincere thanks, Cory Sykes http://www.hakanson.com
Chris - Thanks for the great tech support! I will follow your instructions and hope it all goes well :-) Regards, Dave Dave@allwirelessproducts.com
Hi Chris, I finally figured it out and you were correct about the table stuff. Once it was changed it worked like a charm. I wonder why when I used the DTS it didn't move the properties of the table items? Also I noticed when SQL the checks do not show (active, admin) when creating a new user. My admin actually noticed that as we were about to resort to using the access db for about 10,000 users... (didn't want to do that <g>). Anyway I truly appreciate you taking the time to look it over and help us out. I would have no problem buying applications from you in the future. Service in my eyes is one of my number one reasons to purchase from someone or a company. I won't even go into the lousy support I have receive in the past from companies, it is nice to see people with work ethics such as yours. Again many thanks! Allen Harkleroad - GMP Services, Inc.
